GUIDE
Death counter
A death counter is a display for OBS or StreamLabs that shows a live number on your stream. It usually tracks deaths, but feel free to set it up for whatever you want. You set it up in the Shiny's Streaming Services dashboard, choose your style, copy the Display URL into OBS, and update the value using Nightbot, a Stream Deck, or any tool that can fetch a URL.
Named counter vs current
- Named / specific: This targets one counter by its ID. It's best if you use several counters, like one for each game.
- Current: This uses the counter marked as “Use this as the current counter” in your dashboard. It's ideal if you switch games often but want to keep one OBS URL and one set of Nightbot commands.
Tip: Add the current Display URL to OBS once. When you change games, just check the box for the new counter. You won't need to edit your scenes.
Display format
The dashboard editor lets you control what appears in OBS. You can combine text, colors, and the live number. Adjust the browser source width and height in OBS properties to fit your layout. Avoid stretching the source afterward, or the text might look blurry.
Chat responses
Custom responses are what bots or chat see after an API call. These are separate from what shows up in OBS. Add {{deaths}} to your response text to show the updated count. Response types:
- Default - always used when selected.
- Random - one of several lines is chosen.
- Range - used when the value falls between the from/to limits.
Controlling values
In the dashboard instructions panel, copy these:
- Add / Remove / Reset: Increase, decrease, or reset the counter to zero.
- Set: Go straight to a specific number. In Nightbot,
$(1)is the argument after the command. For Direct URLs, replace<value>.
Nightbot commands use -ul=moderator so only moderators (and you) can use them. You can rename the command trigger if you want a shorter command in chat.
